Living Well with Chronic Illness.
A VERY personal mission
The National Health Council writes, “generally incurable and ongoing, chronic diseases affect approximately 133 million Americans, representing more than 40% of the total population of (the United States), and are projected to grow to an estimated 157 million, with 81 million having multiple conditions.”
In another study, the CDC adds,
“The broader footprint of chronic disease emerges when loved ones are taken into account. This survey finds that 29% of adults say that although they do not have a chronic disease, someone close to them has a chronic medical condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, or cancer.”
That’s A LOT of people! Are you one of them? They are friends, family, co-workers and strangers passing you on the street. How many struggle to live with purpose, fulfillment and JOY? Many are coping everyday to modify their dreams, and priorities to accommodate chronic illness. My vision to continue changing lives and awakening the magic in others is undeterred by my living with Lupus. Having first-hand experience that many of us don’t “look sick” to the outside world, adds yet another layer of understanding.
The impact of chronic illness affects patients, caregivers, and the surrounding communities. My goal is to use the resources at my disposal to support and encourage anyone living with the impact of chronic illness to persistently pursue JOY.
